About First Craft

My name is David Kett.
First Craft is my Piano Tuning business.
I have been Tuning Pianos since 1989.
​I mostly service Melbourne and Gippsland but I have some customers further afield. 

Business Style
I service equipment that was made 120 years ago. (Even brand new pianos have not changed much in their design since 1900.) I drive a vehicle that was made in 1979. I can use a mobile phone. I keep a diary which has pages and a pencil. When you ring me, I will make an appointment. There is no need to confirm an appointment once it is in my diary. I will answer the phone and I will be the one who calls at your home. It took many friends to help me create this website. I take cash, or cheques or you can pay through EFT into my Bank account.

History
In January, 1989, I began training with Albert H. Fox Pty Ltd in Gippsland. In the first year, I learnt piano tuning while working in the restoration workshop. After that, I joined Albert's team of Piano Tuners. The company covered most of Victoria and parts of Southern New South Wales. At the end of this time, I had inspected, advised, quoted and carted over 120 Piano restorations to the company workshop. Being able to see the before and after of restoration has given me an advantage in knowing what is possible and preferable with a restoration project.
​In January, 1999, I started my own business, First craft. With my own workshop, I set about to learn the added skills to continue the kind of work I had previously quoted  for. Since then I have restored over 50 Pianos and developed many of the skills I previously observed. I enjoy finding simple solutions to unique problems.
